chris meckel

Christopher M. Meckel, MD

Christopher M. Meckel was raised in Carmel, California, and graduated from Carmel High School in 1984. He attended the University of California at Berkeley where he completed his undergraduate degree. He earned his Masters of Science in biological sciences from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo.

Dr. Meckel entered the school of medicine at the University of Southern California (USC), where he was a Dean’s Scholar, and received his MD degree in 1996. He completed a general surgical internship and a residency in orthopedic surgery at the USC - Los Angeles County Medical Center. Dr. Meckel pursued advanced training in arthroscopic surgery, sports medicine and joint reconstruction through a fellowship with the AOS Medical Center in Glendale, California, where he joined a team of physicians pioneering the latest techniques in these areas.

Dr. Meckel is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon. He is actively involved in clinical research related to total knee replacement and a study focusing on rehabilitation after total knee replacement.

In 2003, Dr. Meckel returned to Northern California. He co-founded California Orthopaedic Physicians & Surgeons, which was renamed Monterey Joint in 2005, and practices on the Monterey Peninsula. Dr. Meckel volunteers his time as a team physician for the California State University at Monterey Bay, the Monterey Peninsula College Lobos, and local high schools.

Dr. Meckel and his wife live in Carmel with their two young children. He enjoys hockey, golf and walking on the beach.
