Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon

Christopher Meckel, MD was raised in Carmel, California and graduated from Carmel High School in 1984. He attended the University of California at Berkeley where he completed his undergraduate degree in medical anthropology. He further pursued his interest in medicine by earning his Masters of Science degree in the biological sciences from the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Dr. Meckel entered the School of Medicine at the University of Southern California (USC), where he was a Dean's Scholar, and received his medical doctorate degree in 1996. He completed a general surgical internship and a residency in orthopedic surgery at the USC - Los Angeles County Medical Center. Dr. Meckel pursued advanced training in arthroscopic surgery, sports medicine, and joint reconstruction in a fellowship with the AOS Medical Center in Glendale, California, where he joined a team of physicians pioneering the latest techniques in these areas.

Dr. Meckel is an associate fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a member of the University of Southern California Graduate Orthopedic Society, and volunteers as a lab instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America. In 2003, Dr. Meckel happily returned to the Monterey Peninsula and co-founded Monterey Spine and Joint where he is recognized as the joint replacement and sports medicine specialist. He dedicates his time to improving joint care on the Central Coast of California. His expertise in joint replacement surgery allows for minimally and less invasive techniques for hip and knee replacement as well as minimally invasive, arhtroscopic knee and shoulder surgery. He is proud to contribute to the health and wellness of local residents. Doctor Meckel also enjoys volunteering his time as a team physician for Carmel High School — which takes him back to many of the playing fields where he avidly participated in sports as a student athlete.
